ECUADOR ART PROJECTS

ECUADOR EARTHQUAKE

The devastating magnitude-7.8 earthquake that struck Ecuador in April 2016 claimed to be the deadliest quake to hit the South American continent. More than 16,000 injuries and more than 25,000 people were relocated to shelters.

Since then I have been working together with different organizations in Europe. To contribute to the recovery of my country of origin.

Together with the organization Unite for Latam/ecuador, Awareness for Humanitarian needs in Latin America, we carried out this project, the total income of my Art pieces where destinated to the Rebuilding in Ecuador.

THE GOLDEN SUN MASK

SELBSPORTRAIT SERIE

For my drawings serie "Dancer of Pujili selbsportrait" I Got inspired by my own sculptures (The danzer of Pujili Mask), by the Autoanalist Lucian Freund, by Dada masks performances and by Frida Kahlo.

A study of my own moments and feelings. In my selfportraits I can see how my subconscious guide me to draw new scenes on the process of creating new performances.

The intense work of mixing 3 mediums (sculpture, performance, drawing)

fasinated me.

The cold foundry bronze sculptures is a very hard work which requires a lot of physical strength and Time until the bronze pieces are finished.

The drawings are pieces of intense reflection and intimacy.

It is a research about my female body and my feelings on the process of creating art. I'm my own muse.

“I am my own muse. I am the subject I know best. The subject I want to better.”

― Frida Kahlo

THE GOLDEN SUN MASK

"The Golden Sun Chunucari Mask" is my new interpretation of an archaeological Mask which is the logo of the Central Bank of Ecuador.

With this old bronze finish I give to this mask an ancient anpropological Appearance.

The sculpture is large, strong and stands alone. My interest is to give to this mask a status of a monument.

The Golden Sun Chunucari ( Sol de Oro) is an archaeological piece Logo Central Bank of Ecuador , origin: Tolita Culture that flourished in Esmeraldas between 300 BC. It is one of the best known symbols of pre-Columbian art of Ecuador.

THE DANZER OF PUJILI MASK

In the Ecuadorian Andes the "Danzante Pujilí" used to dance in honor of the gods as a sign of appreciation for the harvest and rain.

Today, the "Danzante Pujilí" dances to celebrate the Corpus Christi festival. This is traditionally a Catholic Celebration celebrating the Holy Communion or Eucharist.

Introduced by the Spanish during the Conquest of Ecuador from 1526 - 1820.

This celebration takes place 60 days after Easter and the Inca ceremonial calendar.

Two religions and cultures have being joined this celebration for more then five Centuries, and over time, customs and traditions have blended to create a unique Celebration.

In addition, he wears a colorful dress full of lace, embroidery, old coins on his shoulders and Carries a flag with huge mirrors, pearls and feathers, as a symbol of the Power of the Andean Bird "Condor".
